Bike Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome! | Tirana Airport - Shkodër

Shkodër, Northern Albania’s largest city, boasts a stunning setting nestled between Lake Shkodër, three major rivers, and the foothills of the Albanian Alps. Once a powerful Illyrian capital, it remains the cultural epicenter of the north, famous for its vibrant arts scene.

The cityscape is defined by a mix of mosques and churches that highlight a deep-rooted religious harmony. Historically, the city also played a crucial role in shaping the country’s future, producing key intellectual leaders who helped secure Albania’s independence in 1912.

Day 2: From Shkodër to Andrijevica | Cycling 48Km - 1060m / 29 Mi - 3477 Ft

After breakfast, we shuttle to Rrapshë to begin an unforgettable cycling leg. The ride features a stunning descent down winding switchbacks, taking us through rural villages, deep gorges, and majestic plateaus. We will pedal all the way to Albania’s northernmost edge near Vermosh, ride across the Montenegrin border, and finally catch an evening transfer to our hotel to rest.

Elevation

Day 3: From Andrijevica to Kolasin | Cycling 46 Km - 1040 m / 28 Mi - 3412 Ft

Pedaling north from Andrijevica, we soon leave the main road for a quiet forest ascent through the stunning Komovi Mountains. The climb peaks at Tresnjevik Pass (1,565m), rewarding us with a thrilling downhill run into the Tara River Valley. We finish the day’s ride in Kolasin, our base for the night. Nestled among the Bjelasica and Sinjajevina mountains, Kolasin is widely famous for its excellent walking trails and winter sports.

Day 4: From Kolasin to Zabljak | Cycling 74 Km - +1350 / 45Mi - +4429 Ft

The day starts with a shuttle to a stunning viewpoint where our cycling begins, right at the edge of the Tara River Canyon. Plunging 1,300 meters deep, we will follow this majestic gorge all the way to the famous Tara Bridge, suspended 165 meters over the river. Post-lunch, we tackle a 9 km climb into the UNESCO-protected Durmitor National Park, reaching a vast, pastoral plateau. Before finishing our ride in Zabljak, we take a detour along a quiet secondary road to visit the beautifully carved, medieval Stećci Tombstones, our second UNESCO site of the day.

Elevation

Day 5: From Zabljak to Pluzine| Cycling 44 Km - +750 / 27Mi - +2460 Ft

We start today with a challenging 8 km climb into the UNESCO-protected Durmitor National Park, reaching Montenegro’s highest paved road at Prevoj Sedlo Pass (1,905m). This ascent features spectacular, up-close views of rugged giants like Bobotov Kuk and Sedlena Greda. The reward is a massive, sweeping descent through dramatic limestone landscapes and high alpine meadows. We will tackle thrilling switchbacks and pass through several short tunnels as we make our way down to Lake Plužine on the Piva River, where our lakeside hotel awaits.

Elevation

Day 6: From Pluzine to Cetinje | Cycling 48 Km - +860 m / 29 Mi - +2821 Ft

Today’s ride features rolling terrain as we head south from Pluzine, following the Komanica River down to Nikšić. After a lunch break, we load the bikes and take a minivan shuttle to Cetinje, the 15th-century Old Royal Capital of Montenegro. Once the seat of kings, the town remains the country’s cultural core. We will cap off the day with an included walking tour of the historic center, finishing with a relaxing drink on a beautiful, centuries-old outdoor terrace.

Elevation

Day 7: From Cetinje to Kotor | Cycling 50 Km - +800 m / 31Mi - +2624 Ft

Today delivers incredible scenic changes, taking us from rocky alpine peaks straight down to the Adriatic coast. We begin by climbing through the forests of Lovćen National Park before tackling a legendary, panoramic downhill. Featuring spectacular hairpin turns and jaw-dropping views over the Bay of Kotor, this descent is easily one of the best in Europe. We cap off the ride with an included guided walking tour exploring the historic alleys of Kotor’s Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 8: Free time in Kotor | Activities

Nestled along the Adriatic coast, Kotor is arguably Montenegro’s most captivating destination, famous for its impeccably preserved medieval architecture and dramatic scenery. The Bay of Kotor, often romantically referred to as Europe’s southernmost fjord, though geographically a submerged river canyon (a “ria”), features deep blue waters framed by the towering limestone cliffs of Mount Orjen and Mount Lovćen.

The enchanting Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, further protected by another UNESCO treasure: a massive network of 16th and 17th-century Venetian defensive walls.

How to make the most of your rest day:

  • Hike: Climb the stone steps to Kotor Fortress for epic views over the bay.

  • Taste: Sample local flavors at the outdoor food market by the city gates.

  • Relax: Unwind on a local beach lined with vibrant cafes and restaurants.

  • Cruise: Take a boat trip to the historic Our Lady of the Rocks or the Blue Cave.

  • Paddle: Hit the water on a kayak or stand-up paddleboard.

  • Spin: Take your bike for a relaxed, scenic ride around the bay’s edge.

Day 9: From Kotor to Shirokë | Cycling 42 Km - +150 m / 26Mi - +492 Ft

Following breakfast, we shuttle to Bar to begin our last ride of the tour. We pedal a fun, rolling route alongside the forests near the Albanian border, enjoying the undulating terrain without any major climbs. Dropping down to the flat plains, we cross the Muriqan border back into Albania and cruise a final, flat 15 km to our lunch spot by the Buna River.

Post-lunch, we transfer to Tirana, Albania’s bustling capital, known for its striking mix of Fascist and Communist-era architecture. If you have free time, visiting the National History Museum or Bunk’Art is a must. We regroup at 6 PM for a final wrap-up briefing, capping off the trip with a hearty, family-style farewell dinner at a traditional Albanian restaurant.
