Day 2: The Island Vis

▶ Classic:

Mileage: aprx. 20 mi./31 km

This morning, we have the pleasure of enjoying breakfast while cruising to the Island of Vis. Vis is the most distant inhabited island from the mainland of Croatia. A Greek settlement known as Issa was established on the island 2,300 years ago. Owing to its strategic position, it was a military area until 1995 and was off-limits to foreign tourists. Today, we have the chance to explore this beautiful island by bicycle. We have ample time to appreciate the island and will be spending the night here.

▶  MTB:

Mileage: A: aprx. 18 mi. /30 km, aprx. 2950 ft. /900 m of elevation; B: aprx. 15.5 mi. /25 km, aprx. 2200 ft. /670 m of elevation

During the morning, we are enjoying a breakfast cruise to the island of Vis. Vis is the furthest inhabited island from the Croatian coast. The island was originally settled by a Greek colony known as Issa around 2,300 years ago. Because of its strategic significance, it functioned as a military zone until 1995, making it inaccessible to foreign tourists. Today marks the start of one of the week’s most stunning excursions. Vis provides a wonderful mix of off-road paths, historical landmarks, and breathtaking ocean scenery along the journey. We have ample time to explore the island and will be staying the night here.

▶ Plus:

Mileage: aprx. 20 mi./32 km

Vis is the most remote island from the coast of Croatia. A Greek settlement known as Issa existed on the island around 2,300 years ago. Because of its strategic position, it remained a military area until 1995 and was off-limits to foreign visitors. Nowadays, we can discover this beautiful island by bike. After our cycling adventure, a boat will take us to the Island of Korčula. We will spend the night in Vela Luka.

Day 3: The Island Korčula

▶ Classic:

Mileage: aprx. 18.5 mi./30 km

In the morning, we depart from the island of Vis by boat and head towards the harbor town of Vela Luka located on the Island of Korčula. During our journey, we stop to drop anchor for a refreshing swim. Korčula is known for being one of the most picturesque islands in the Adriatic, filled with beautiful sights and charming villages nestled among the greenery. Upon our arrival in Vela Luka, we have the opportunity to take a tour from Vela Luka to the village of Blato and back. We will spend the night in Vela Luka.

▶  MTB:

Mileage: A: 18mi. /29km aprx. 2060ft/630m of elevation B: aprx. 17mi. /28km aprx. 1500ft. /450m of elevation

In the morning, we head over to the harbour of Vela Luka on the island of Korčula, taking a swim from the boat if the weather allows. Today’s agenda features some fantastic riding with both groups starting together at the northern end of the island. From the harbour, we ride along coastal paths before proceeding on a blend of asphalt and gravel roads to the remarkable archaeological site of Vela Spila, a stunning cave rock formation. At this point, we split into two groups: one can take an urban trail back to the harbour, while the other descends along gravel roads. Once back at the harbour, we take a brief coffee break before splitting into two groups again for one final trail ride on the island’s southern tip. After a successful descent, we relish a celebratory dinner onboard and spend the night in Vela Luka.

▶ Plus:

Mileage: aprx. 37.5 mi./60 km

Today we explore the island of Korčula on bicycles and enjoy our lunch at a local restaurant. The tranquility and seclusion, along with the lush vegetation and cypress groves, have contributed to making this perhaps the most stunning Dalmatian island. Our cycling route takes us through the village of Blato, which, like Rome, is built on seven hills, along a path that crosses Pupnat bay and ultimately leads us to Korčula town, where we have the chance to stroll through the charming old town with its narrow, “fishbone-shaped” streets. We will spend the night in Korčula town.

Following a break for lunch, we set off again on a second cycling journey through the island’s lush plains toward the coastal town of Jelsa. After stopping for coffee and ice cream, we wrap up the loop back to Stari Grad, where we will spend the night.

Our goal is to traverse the island, which we achieve by navigating a mix of paved roads, rolling natural paths, and gravel trails. Along the way, some excellent trail sections provide welcome breaks from our uphill journey. When we reach the midway point of the island, we indulge in a well-deserved lunch at a local eatery before climbing to the highest point of the tour and selecting our route down to the fertile plains of Stari Grad, where our boat awaits us in the harbor. We spend the night in the charming harbor town of Stari Grad.

▶ Plus:

Once we arrive on land, we can take in the ambiance of the stunning Renaissance Square in Hvar town and admire the view of the Spanish Fortress perched high above the city. Our journey leads us from Hvar city to the most breathtaking viewpoints on the island, passing by fragrant wild lavender fields before arriving in the town of Stari Grad. CLASSIC and MTB: Premium Ship SAN SNOVA

At 31 x 8 m the wooden motor yacht, San Snova, took to the water in 2009 and has worked exclusively with Islandhopping ever since. The construction took shape over the course of three years and set a milestone for the boat-building scene in Croatia, as it is the last wooden boat of its kind to have been built. The 14 guest cabins are air-conditioned with a shower and WC. The crew on board pay special attention to cleanliness and maintenance of the ship and radiate a friendly and inviting atmosphere to the guests.

PLUS: Deluxe Ship MAGELLAN

The Magellan is an elegant two-masted motor yacht that remains pleasantly steady even when sailing through heavier swells. On board you will find spacious guest cabins with air-conditioning and a personal shower/WC. The beautifully furnished saloon and bar as well as the covered aft deck are fitted out with comfortable seating areas. On the spacious sun deck, you will find deckchairs, enticing you to lie back, relax and enjoy the warm sea breeze. The swimming platform at the stern ensures easy access to the glistening waters for a refreshing dip. Delicious cuisine is particularly important on the Magellan: The ship’s owner is a member of the cooking academy for traditional Dalmatian cuisine and the owner of a restaurant on the island of Hvar, known far beyond the borders of Croatia for its excellent dishes. It goes without saying that he also implements these high culinary standards on his motor yacht. Meals on board can likewise be enjoyed with an exquisite selection of Croatian wines.
