Description of Croatia Island Hopping | Self-Guided Bike Tour

Take a magical bike tour along Croatia’s sweeping Dalmatian Coast, from the timeless beauty of Split to the charm of old-world Dubrovnik and its surrounding walls. Ride among the isles of Brac, Hvar, and Korcula, where each new twist in the trail reveals another delight.

The local dishes are quite diverse, from fragrant and sharp pašticada and peka, to spicy ćevapčići, and remarkable risotto with cuttlefish ink. Add the most famous wines in the region: powerful red Plavac Mali, fragrant white Pošip, velvety sweet Prošek—everything is direct from the vineyards of Dalmatia.

But this tour is more than that—it’s a deep dive into the quintessential Mediterranean way of life; a region where exquisite flavors, breathtaking views, and ancient history merge with perfection for an experience that is nothing short of sublime.

As you traverse through the ancient villages and towns, you’ll witness a living exhibition of masterful stone craftsmanship, a testament to the island’s heritage.

Your journey through Brač promises breathtaking views of the mainland, with paths winding through serene olive groves and lush vineyards, painting a picture of idyllic beauty. Through coastal scenery and lavender fields

Following a serene ferry journey from Split, your adventure continues on the sun-drenched island of Hvar. We recommend starting your day with a leisurely morning ride around the UNESCO-listed Stari Grad. This Old Town, a treasure trove of history, was founded by ancient Greeks in 400 B.C., and today, it invites you to pedal through time. As you navigate its tranquil, charming streets, you’ll be enveloped by the scent of gardens, the sea breeze along the coast, and the earthy aroma of olive groves, offering a sensory feast as rich as the town’s storied past.

Then your journey takes you through the seaside villages of Vrboska and Jelsa. These gems of the island offer a glimpse into the serene coastal life, with their quaint harbors, ancient stone houses, and quiet, cobblestone streets.

In the afternoon, ride along what is arguably the most picturesque route on the island, meandering through fields of lavender that stretch towards the horizon. This famous path not only captivates with its vibrant hues and sweet fragrances but also leads you to the town of Hvar. Here, the blend of natural beauty and historic splendor creates a perfect backdrop for an unforgettable cycling day.

Day 4: Korčula Island | Cycling 46Km

Where timeless flavors meet ancient shores

Begin your day with a scenic boat transfer to the enchanting island of Korčula, where a 46-kilometer bike ride awaits, taking you away from the well-trodden paths of Korčula town. This island, rich with history predating even the ancient Greeks, offers a journey through time with every pedal stroke. You’ll encounter evidence of its early settlement amidst the breathtaking landscapes.

The island’s northern shores were once chosen by the Venetians to construct a fortified city, pivotal to their dominance in the region. Their legacy endures in the stunning, well-preserved walled old town of Korčula, where you’ll spend two nights. This architectural treasure has remained virtually unchanged for centuries, inviting you to explore its historic charm.

Ride along the island’s southern coastline, where spectacular views of pristine hidden beaches and secluded coves unfold. The route meanders through rural villages and hamlets, inviting you to discover the island’s beauty. Take the opportunity to stop at one of the local konobas (taverns) and delight in the exquisite flavors of dishes prepared with locally sourced ingredients.

This journey through Korčula offers a blend of historical discovery, natural splendor, and gastronomic delights, creating an experience that is as enriching as it is memorable.

Day 5: Korčula rest day | Cycling 0 to 36km

Spend a day exploring the island.

Seize another day in Korčula to truly immerse yourself in the island’s enchanting landscapes and rich history. Venture beyond the usual paths to discover Korčula’s secluded coves, captivating old towns, quaint villages, and the dark pine forests that cloak much of its terrain. Today offers a selection of loop routes, each promising its own adventure. Whether you’re weaving through lush vineyards, ancient olive groves, or along the island’s stunning coastline, every turn brings a new delight.

Indulge in the local culinary treasures that have been the heart of Korčula’s cuisine for centuries. From homemade gnocchi and macaroni to the savory depths of pašticada, these traditional dishes offer a taste of the island’s soul. Complement your meal with some of Croatia’s finest white wines, produced right here on Korčula, enhancing your dining experience with their exquisite flavors.

Talking about food, you simply can’t miss the local olive oil, renowned for its rich flavors, coming from olive groves that have flourished for centuries. The olive tree, a staple of the Mediterranean, finds a perfect home on Korčula, where the island’s gentle climate and traditional, frequently organic, cultivation methods give rise to distinct flavors—from the fruity to the peppery. Local varieties like Lastovka and Oblica enhance the oil’s depth, securing its place as a pillar of Korčula’s culinary legacy.

Day 6: Dubrovnik | Cycling 0Km

Enjoy the splendor of old Dubrovnik, the Pearl of the Adriatic

After enjoying breakfast, we’ll arrange your transfer to Dubrovnik, marking the conclusion of the tour. However, the end of the cycling tour doesn’t have to mean the end of your adventure. Dubrovnik, known as the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic,’ offers a treasure trove of experiences, and extending your stay here comes highly recommended.

Once you’ve settled in, immerse yourself in the city’s rich history by exploring the majestic walls that cradle the Old Town. These fortifications, dating back to the Middle Ages, offer panoramic views of the azure Adriatic Sea and the city’s iconic red-tiled roofs. A walk along these walls is a journey through time and an absolute must-do.

Venture further into the heart of Dubrovnik to discover its limestone streets and baroque buildings. Visit the Rector’s Palace, a harmonious blend of Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architecture, which now houses the Cultural History Museum. Don’t miss the chance to see the Sponza Palace, a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture that holds the city’s archives.

For a spiritual retreat, step into the serene interior of the Dubrovnik Cathedral or the Franciscan Monastery, which houses one of the oldest pharmacies in Europe, operational since 1317.

If you’re looking for a unique perspective of the city, take the cable car up to Mount Srđ. From this vantage point, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of Dubrovnik and the surrounding islands, a perfect spot for capturing memories or simply soaking in the vistas.

For those interested in Dubrovnik’s maritime history, the Maritime Museum inside St. John’s Fortress offers insightful exhibits on the city’s naval power.

And finally, for a tranquil end to your day, wander down to the old port to enjoy a leisurely dinner at one of the seaside restaurants, where you can enjoy fresh seafood while watching boats glide across the harbor.

Dubrovnik is not just a city; it’s a living museum, a testament to resilience, beauty, and the rich tapestry of human history. Taking an extra day to explore its wonders is an opportunity to enrich your understanding and appreciation of this unforgettable destination.
