Description of Sicily Baroque | Self-Guided Gravel Bike Tour

Ride across the island of light, flavors, and baroque beauty.

This Gravel Bike Tour in Sicily is a cycling holiday through the heart of the island, where history, flavors, and landscapes change with every pedal stroke.

Starting from the baroque towns of the southeast and ending in Taormina, the pearl of the Ionian coast, this week’s gravel bike ride is a blend of quiet country roads, scenic gravel tracks, and smooth tarmac stretches.

It’s designed for those who love the sense of freedom that only a gravel bike can offer: long distances, little traffic, and the chance to explore places far from the crowds.

Each day brings something new: golden hills, ancient villages, fragrant pistachio groves, and the mighty presence of Mount Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe, the second in the world after Kīlauea on the Hawaiian Islands.

Bike Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome in Sicily! | Briefing and Warm Up Ride

Arrival in Catania and transfer to Noto

Your Sicilian gravel bike holiday begins in Noto, one of the most refined examples of Sicilian baroque. After settling in, you’ll have a large briefing with our local guide going over the day-to-day tour. It’s time to ask questions and understand how rich your upcoming cycling holiday in Sicily will be.

Then, after the bike fitting made by our experts, a short warm-up ride leads you through the countryside to Scicli, a charming town of stone houses and narrow lanes.

You’ll get the first taste of what gravel riding in Sicily feels like: olive groves, golden fields, and winding roads with almost no traffic.

Overnight: Noto
Included:

Day 2: From Noto to Ragusa | Cycling 51Km - 1053m / 31Mi - 3454Ft

A day rich in beauty and flavor. You’ll cross the Noto Valley, passing through rolling farmland and quiet tracks that bring you to Modica, famous for its traditional chocolate made from an ancient Aztec recipe.

After a stop to taste it, the route climbs toward Ragusa Ibla, full of stairways, domes, and old palaces. Check it at night, it looks like an unreal painting!

The mix of gravel and small paved roads makes this one of the most enjoyable stages of the tour.

The day ends in Caltagirone, the “city of ceramics”, known for its colorful tiles and the long staircase of Santa Maria del Monte.

A stroll through its historic center is the best way to end the day: surrounded by craft workshops and warm evening light.
